starting the unification process

I have been torn about whether or not to enter into the blogging world, but it seems this is a viable option to voice one’s thoughts to anyone who might care to read them and perhaps for some crazy reason actually want to respond to them.

The title of this blog may suggest many things – intentional. We live in a very dualistic world in which we are divided by so many things – cultures, ideas, worldviews, and borders – that it is difficult to imagine that we could ever live in a united state. Closer to home, we live in divided societies that reveal very distinct biases and prejudices that appear likely never to go away – forever establishing the divided nature of our communities – one side of the tracks or the other.

Even closer, to home is the family unit – extended and immediate. I am fortunate that my immediate family, my beautiful wife and children, are united by the common bond of love. Others are not so fortunate, even their immediate family exists in a divided state, often being pulled in various directions and impulses that eventually result in a fractured state that can no longer be reunited. This may be the microcosmic example of the world we live in, the nation we live in, the state we live in, or the town we live in.

Is there any hope for our divided states to once again be united? Perhaps in future posts we can offer some points of conversation that may stir us to begin that process and hopefully bring about a positive change – but it must first start with the individual – ask yourself the question – “Do I represent a ‘divided state’?
